FAQ

How do I make a reservation?
You can either phone Rivers & Roads on 1300 882 115 or send us an enquiry form to get things started. In most cases, to ensure that you get the best results for your booking, your personal consultant will need to speak with you, perhaps a number of times. Chances are you’ll soon feel like the two of you are friends. And at Rivers & Roads you are never a number or an anonymous caller to a call centre – as long as they are available you’ll always deal with the same person, not just with your first booking but with all your future Rivers & Roads holidays.

Are there any discounts or savings available?
Depending on the supplier, where available we can offer numerous savings such as earlybirds, past passenger, second trip discounts, frequent traveller discounts, room sharing options plus special discounts that may be exclusive to Rivers & Roads. Plus Rivers & Roads does not charge booking fees or credit card fees (not even for American Express!) saving you even more!

Can I book a group?
We are well established group specialists and our groups division has been responsible for organising groups from a handful of people to more than 1,000! We’ll make this easy for you.

Is there an extra charge for travelling alone?
One of the great benefits of touring and river cruising is that travelling alone is easier and safer than doing it by yourself. Plus of course you can look forward to making new friendships.

Although this can’t be guaranteed, if you don’t want the additional expense of a single room supplement we will try to find an operator who will allow you to share with a stranger of the same gender.

What is the single supplement?
This extra charge for solo travellers exists because hotels charge by the room, not per person, so naturally this costs more if you are not sharing.

Are prices based on shared accommodation?
Unless stated otherwise most prices we quote are per person with two people sharing.

Are airport transfers included?
This depends upon the operator and the particular tour or river cruise. We will advise you of all these details during the booking process.

Do I need Travel Insurance?
We strongly recommend that all guests have a travel insurance policy to ensure your peace of mind before and whilst travelling. It’s important that you protect yourself in case of trip cancellations, an interruption for any reason, baggage delays or loss of baggage and medical expenses. Your Rivers & Roads advisor can supply you with comprehensive cover from Covermore, with whom we have a special arrangement. We cannot assist with comparisons, but point out that many other options including credit card insurance policies may not provide sufficient cover. You should check the exact coverage details carefully.

Why isn’t my existing medical insurance enough coverage?
Check with your primary care insurer but in general most insurance companies will not cover accidents in a foreign country or out of the area, and claims will only be met up to a stated limit. Comprehensive travel insurance will cover balances up to a much higher amount. In addition you will receive cover for travel costs, accommodation and assistance should it be required.

Will I need a passport?
Passports are needed when travelling outside your home country. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond the conclusion of your trip.

Will I need a visa?
Depending on your nationality, you may need visas to enter certain countries included on your trip. Please note that obtaining visas can take many weeks, especially if you need more than one, so you should organise these at least two months prior to your departure. The responsibility for ensuring you have all necessary visas prior to the departure of your holiday is entirely yours, however your Rivers & Roads consultant will happily assist you. Note that in this case fees, including those of Rivers & Roads and the applicable visa office plus couriers will apply.

When will I receive my documents?
Travel documents are usually sent two to three weeks before departure.

Can I request special dietary meals?
If you have special dietary requirements please advise us at time of booking. Special meal requirements are generally on a request only basis and cannot be guaranteed, including special religious requirements.
